kicked/disconnected after map changed? |
|
Some ppl still having issues while loading the game or after a map changed. Here is a try to help you out, based on earlier positive experiences.
Error messages:
"Discconnected for unknown reason"
"PB INIT FAILURE" (or similar)
"Hunk_AllocateTempMemory error" (or similar)
...and many other messages...
The mentioned problems are mostly caused by:
1) Too less memory (too low system specs)
2) Wrong config settings (problems, although you have a kind of super computer)
or
3) Erroneous-/old Punkbuster files
Intructions:
1) Too less memory (too low system specs):
TC:E 0.49/0.49b needs a larger amount of memory and a bit higher system specs. Maybe you noticed longer loading times since 0.49 was released. All you need is more free memory and a tidy clean system. At least you need 512 MB of RAM and as much as possible of free RAM to get TC:E running/loading fluid.
-> Disable/close all unnecessary software, especially software that uses the internet
-> Clean your startup folder. Don't let all this stuff start automaticly
-> Defrag your harddisk
-> Scan for viruses/spyware/addware and other crap ( http://freeav.com , http://www.spycleaner.net )
-> Clean your registry (windows only - http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm )
-> Run a tuneup software for your os (search in google)
-> Buy memory it's not too expensive this time
-> You should pay attention to 2)!
2) Wrong config settings (problems, although you have a kind of super computer)
If you have such problems although you got a good PC (eg. more than 512 MB of RAM), you should do the following depending to the way you start the game/connect to servers:
-> Connecting via ingame browser:
Look for the TC:Elite shortcuts on your desktop, in your startmenu and tcetest folder. Open them all (one after an other) with a right click and choose properties. Look for target and change the three values for example to:
...+set com_hunkMegs 256 +set com_zoneMegs 64 +set com_soundMegs 32...
For the hunkmegs use the half of your system RAM (if you have 512 MB, type in "256"). Zonemegs can be decreased to “32” for more performance. Click OK and start the game/connect to a server (maybe twice).
-> Connection via an external serverbrowser (ASE, Qtracker):
Open the autoexec.cfg located in your tcetest folder with Wordpad or an other editor and edit this values:
-> soundmegs 32
-> zonemegs 64
-> hunkmegs “256”
For the hunkmegs use the half of your system RAM (if you have 512 MB, type in "256"). Zonemegs can be decreased to “32” for more performance. Save the changes and start the game/connect to a server twice!
You should pay attention to 1)!
3) Erroneous-/old Punkbuster files
Getting kicked by Punkbuster for different reasons while loading maps can be solved by doing the steps above (decrease your loading times). But in some cases it's really PB causing problems.
-> Punkbuster FAQ page:
Search your kick reason here http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=faq-et.php . Search the document by pressing "CTRL and F".
-> Update Punkbuster:
In all cases a PB update would not be amiss. The easiest way to do this is to use „pbsetup.exe” from here http://evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php . Please read the instructions on the site (chose „Enemy Territory“ at „Add a Game“).
-> Reinstall Punkbuster:
If you keep getting kicked, try it with reinstalling Punkbuster. Rename or delete the old pb folder and run "pbsetup".
Note: Do nothing if your game is running fine. Backup the files you want to edit. Not my fault, if you do something wrong!
Good luck
