ET patch 2.60b! |
|
good morning
there`s an update for enemy territory out. the 2.60b update fixes a security leak and some other bugs in et (most Q3-Engine based games are affected!).
qestion:
what happens if some1 do not patch et to 2.60b?
answer:
the problem is the autodownload option in the game. a stupid hacker kid found out that it would be no prob to use this feature to get the control of other et-clients! i think the same is possible for tc:e!
what to do now:
there`s no problem if you are behind a firewall or if you disable www-downloads ("gamesettings - options") in et/tc:e.
it makes no sense to update et to 2.60b if the game-servers are not updatet. i saw 3 servers with that update (force, #71st, SeF). the best way is to copy/save the old "et.exe" to a backup-folder. then unzip the update to your "wolfenstein - enemy territory"-folder. if you get problems after you patched et, copy the old et.exe back to your et folder.
i patched et yesterday and played tc:e some hours without any problem on public- and on war servers!
here`s the patch: http://www.extreme-players.de/download.php?id=10228 (click on "download now")

i tried the linux-version for one day, then copied the old et.x86 back.
Why?
I had 3 crashes nearly the end of a game (not the bomb-bug)
and more
i got a lot of punkbuster warnings about Hacked Cvar: cg_tracerwidth
but when i checked the restrictions i could not found this variable.
after i put back the old version
i could play the whole evening (yesterday) whithout a crash and without the
punkbuster messages.
