Take the battery out when you don't want to load it.

Splinx, one thing I can say for sure besides any battery managing program
that I don't know is that you are a very lazy bum. Simply take out the battery when
not in use. That is the most effective method to prevent your battery from dieing
too fast. That's what I do as well.

Umm, are you sure that such a program exists? I never heard of that. I always thought that the charging of the battery was more or less OS independent. The charger starts charging, when it gets power. I'd be highly interested in such a program, too.

Build a simple timed switch to the charger.

There cannot be a program you want, Splinx... How TriffiD says such a process is independent. I mean how should the program know when it have to start with charging? Also the programm cannot work with your charger, the power comes all the time!

i know such programms exist since my brothers thinkpad got 1..but it only works for those thinkpads(or however this laptops are called)..i imagine in my n00by brain that it shouldt be kinda easy to make a programm that reads the battery status...and initiates charging when the battery drops to lets say 50%..but as u all probably know..i got no idea about pc..i just aim and pull the trigger in the wide, wide virtual worlds of the interwebs Laughing Cool
